ROAD MATERIAL RECYCLING
Our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and imprint on the environment is helped by the implementation of our road material recycling centre.
reducing the cost of construction
There is an expectation on us all to look after our environment for future generations and that's not just limited to the car you drive or what you put in the recycling bin at home. Across the UK, surfacing and construction companies are increasing the variety and amount of materials that are recycled and re-used in the installation of road networks. At Curtis & Sons Surfacing & Planing Contractors, we're ready to do our bit to help too!
USING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
Since we formed our company in 1963, the evolution in technology and materials is unbelievable to many. Roads were originally created using coal tar, which isn't classed as hazardous material and therefore cannot be recycled. Thanks to the developments in technology, material that is removed from roads across Britain can be converted into durable products which can make up base layers for new road networks. By ensuring that as much road waste as possible is recycled, we're reducing the amount of fuel having to be extracted from the earth and cutting emissions on a daily basis.
Most of the material that we recycle is turned into either concrete, asphalt planing or top soil, all of which are ideal materials for the lower layers of new road installations and repairs. It's important to install anti-skid layers on all roads, which currently cannot be created using recycled materials, but advances in technology mean that this is surely not too far away.
